Indian Stone Paving FAQs
How do you clean Indian Stone Paving?

Indian stone paving can often be cleaned with a simple sweep and a light scrubbing with soapy water or approved cleaning solution.

You can also hose or pressure wash your paving, although you should do this at a distance to avoid damaging the stone. For tough stains, try our stone paving cleaner

Our paving cleaning guide can advise you further.

Is Indian Stone Porous?

All natural stone, including Indian Stone, has some degree of porosity, which helps with its natural slip resistance. Indian limestone is highly porous, as is Indian sandstone, with lighter coloured sandstones having higher porosity than the darker hues.

If you’re worried about water and weather resistance for more porous stone types, our stone sealer can help to protect your paving.

Where does Indian Stone come from?

RF Indian Stone Paving is imported via a trusted sourcing agent from a number of regions in India. Thanks to India’s varied geology, each region produces distinct stone types and colourings.

How to lay Indian Stone Paving?
  1. Plan first – sketch your garden design yourself or with a landscaper.
  2. Decide areas – choose which parts will be paved and which will be grass or planting.
  3. Choose style:
  4. Paver size – mixed sizes look traditional, single size looks modern.
  5. Edges – cobbles work well as borders.
  6. Drainage – make sure paving slopes away from buildings.
  7. Check materials – look for any damaged or faulty paving before starting.
  8. Prepare the base:
  9. Dig down at least 150mm.
  10. Lay a weed-proof membrane.
  11. Fill two-thirds with crushed stone and compact firmly.
  12. Make mortar (mix 4 parts sharp sand to 1 part cement with water for a semi-dry mix.)
  13. Lay a mortar bed around 50mm thick, cover fully.
  14. Lay pavers:
  15. Tap gently into place with a rubber mallet.
  16. Large slabs (over 600mm x 600mm) need two people to lift.
  17. Fill joints with:
  • Nexus Fusion – brush-in compound, easy to use.
  • Nexus Titan – stronger epoxy mix, ideal for driveways.

Seal stone with:

  • PRO-410 – matt finish, enhances colour, weather and stain resistant (covers 4.5–7 sqm per litre).
  • PRO-810 – invisible finish, no colour change, deep protection (covers 7–12 sqm per litre).
What joint size is best for Indian Stone?

Joints refer to the gaps between your Indian Stone Paving slabs. For a contemporary look, narrow joints of 3-7mm are neat and sharp, while wide joints of 15-25mm are perfect for a rustic look. The most common choice, however, is 8-14mm for a style that’s versatile to a number of landscaping types.

Mixed-size project packs with the following sizes: 290×290, 290×600, 600×600, and 600×900 allow for a 10mm joint. Therefore, a 10mm joint is the optimum width for the RF7 mixed sizes.
