1. Outline the area to be paved.
2. Conduct a dry run by laying out the paving stones to ensure they fit and look as desired.
3. Excavate the area, accounting for the thickness of the stones, a two-inch sub-base, and two inches of mortar.
4. Add a sub-base of crushed stone or gravel, compacting and leveling it as needed. Use a plate compactor if necessary.
5. Apply enough mortar for a single paver and place your first slab to prevent the mortar from drying out before laying all the slabs.
6. Allow the paved area to dry for 1-2 days.
7. Secure the gaps by brushing patio grout into the joints.
8. Remove any excess grout for a clean and neat finish, then let it set for an additional day.
