Wall Cladding FAQs
Why use wall cladding?

Wall cladding has so many incredible benefits.

  • The durability of your wall is increased as it’s given additional shielding from weather damage.
  • Your home is quieter as cladding provides an additional barrier to outside sounds, which is particularly beneficial for urban areas.
  • You can reduce energy costs because the cladding provides thermal insulation, meaning there’s less need to switch the heating on.
  • The wall is stronger because the weight is distributed more evenly.
  • You experience fewer leaks as the wall is protected from water damage.

How to install external wall cladding

These steps can help guide you when applying porcelain cladding panels to your wall.

  1. Measure the wall before ordering your cladding panels to ensure you’ll have enough. Order enough cladding for a wall about 10% larger than yours so that you have spare material in case of mistakes.
  2. Make sure the wall is clean and dry. Sand off any paint if applicable. Correct any cracks or unevenness in the wall before fitting cladding.
  3. Apply two coats of porcelain primer to the wall to ensure correct adhesion.
  4. Cut your cladding as required, helping it to fit properly around windows, doors and awkward angles.
  5. Use a notched trowel to apply adhesive to the wall. Apply only enough for each individual tile as you go along to prevent adhesive drying prematurely.
  6. Starting at the bottom of the wall, lay your first tile. Tile along until you reach the other bottom corner before working upward. If installing upward more than 3m of cladding, you may need a mechanical fixing solution for particularly heavy pieces of cladding.
  7. Repeat steps three and four until the wall is fully cladded, ensuring tiles are flush using a spirit level. Have an expansion gap of around 4mm between your cladding panels to account for expansion/contraction in different weathers.
  8. You can either butt up or leave a grout joint, and we will advise you on the best course of action based on your chosen product. Grout between the cladding panels using a float.
How to maintain wall cladding

Our cladding is designed for ease of maintenance. Unlike traditional wood cladding, it’s resistant to rot, decay, and insect infestation. Its non-porous nature prevents water absorption, reducing the risk of mould or mildew growth. Cleaning every 3-6 months, or as required according to a quick visual assessment, is all that’s needed.

To clean your wall cladding, use warm, soapy water and a soft-bristle brush. However, significant dirt buildup is best handled by a pressure washer. This should be set to a relatively low power, below 3100 PSI, and the pressure washer should be held at least 250mm away from the surface of your cladding panels.
